Every month a meeting of the Mayor's Neighborhood Cabinet is convened. All of the pertinent department heads gather to review strategies for neighborhood improvement and an implementation plan is developed. Each meeting features a different neighborhood and includes review of special projects and initiatives of the Mayor.
The Office of Neighborhoods coordinates neighborhood and agency participation, plans event logistics, and monitors agency follow through on issues related to Open Dialogues with the Mayor. These events occur on a bi-monthly basis at various locations throughout the city.
The Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods and Constituent Services serve on several neighborhood grant review committees including the Neighborhoods First Matching Capital Grant Program and the BELIEVE in Your Neighborhood Grants administered by the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts.
The Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods assumed a lead role in the Clean Ups. This was teamwork at its best with City employees joining neighborhood volunteers to remove trash and debris from hundreds of locations throughout the City. Volunteers were asked to pitch in, sweep, rake and otherwise remove the loose materials at these locations. City crews also worked that day in this effort to assist with the proper disposal of the collected debris.
Operation PROTECT is a comprehensive approach to crime reduction within the City of Baltimore. Over the past two years the Safe Zone project has effectively lowered homicide and shooting rates in Baltimore neighborhoods. PROTECT is an expansion of this effort. In addition to enhanced law enforcement, city services will be deployed into neighborhoods. Residents and community leaders will be asked to participate in maintaining a cleaner, greener, healthier and safer neighborhood. The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods works closely with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice to coordinate neighborhood outreach efforts within Operation PROTECT.
