Wanna play? It doesn’t matter whether you’re a child ready for your first taste of organized football or tennis or if you’re an adult eager to experience a coed Whiffle Ball league. The Division of Youth and Adult Sports provides a wide array of athletic choices for all age groups. Does boxing, indoor soccer or skateboarding sound like fun? Maybe track and field, football, or basketball are more your speed. In the Division of Youth and Adult Sports, you will find a program suited to your needs. The Division promotes the whole individual, good sportsmanship and an environment that is both fun and competitive.

“Take it to the Hoop!” The BNBL’s goal is to reach boys and girls, ages 6-18, who are interested in developing basketball skills through league play. The league runs from May through July at various locations throughout the city. Registration will begin in April. Fees are $200 per team.

Batter up! Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks’ Youth and Adult Sports Division is ‘stepping up to the plate’ and bringing baseball to Baltimore communities. Our Baseball program has been serving both youth and adults for over 50 years. The spring and summer Citywide Baseball and RBI leagues start in May and continue until July. The Little Leagues run from April through July. Citywide Baseball and RBI leagues’ organizational meetings are in March. The Orioles Baseball Clinic is held in Carroll Park in May or June (date and time to be announced). The AAABA League (20 and under) begins in May.

For $150, your next birthday party, family reunion, community festival or block party will be extra special! This portable “Wagon of Fun” includes a variety of active games that are sure to keep the party going. Some of these portable games include a basketball and goal, portable Frisbee targets, hippety hop balls, miniature golf and rubber horseshoes. Get those wheels a-spinning at the Carroll Park Bike and Skate Facility. The season begins in April. The hours of operation are dawn until dusk, Monday through Sunday. The facility is FREE and open to the public. There are biking and skateboarding contests every month. “Take it to the Ring!” This is one of Baltimore’s newest special facilities. The youth boxing program exposes participants to basic and advanced boxing skills. Training includes proper exercises for warm up, proper movement and stance, shadow boxing and more. Other activities include shows, boxing routines (basic skills), ring sparring and more. Fitness and self-defense classes are also offered. Upton also offers after-school programming, including a computer lab and universal gym (weight room).

When kids catch their first fish, it’s like a special Birthday surprise and hitting that winning home run all in one. Join Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks for the 2008 Family Fishing Fun season at Patterson Park Boat Lake. A parent or guardian must accompany children. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to fish with participants. All fish must be reeled in by the children. This is “catch and release” fishing. Project Reach One! Teach One! provides academic and athletic opportunities, including S.A.T preparation, the Mayor’s Holiday Basketball Tournament, the Spelling Bee contest, and an Easter Showcase Basketball Tournament for economically disadvantaged students from elementary to high school levels. Its objective is to conduct youth programs that enhance academics, while increasing participation in constructive athletic activities.

Hit a home run with Rec and Parks! The Youth and Adults’ Softball program consists of leagues and tournaments for teams and individuals within the various city park districts. A league consists of a minimum of four teams. Youth, women’s, men’s and co-ed leagues categorize team divisions. Games will be played on Patterson, Druid Hill, Riverside, Joseph Lee, Latrobe, Carroll, Holabird and Clifton Park fields.
The Adult Softball Program consists of leagues and tournaments for various levels of competition. The levels of competition include women’s, men’s and co-ed divisions. Leagues and tournaments are held in city parks. Locations include Patterson, Joseph Lee, Holabird, Druid Hill, Riverside, Latrobe, Carroll and Clifton parks. Team Cost: $210 for a single game league; $230 doubleheader league.

“Take it to the courts,” the tennis courts! There are more than 60 open play tennis courts throughout Baltimore City. The courts are operated on a first come first serve basis, unless otherwise permitted by the Department. The BCRP Tennis program is a great source for lessons, league play and summer camp. On your mark, get set, go! For nearly 100 years, Baltimore City has offered Track and Field activities for the athletic and recreational benefit of city residents. The Track and Field program offers clinics, developmental and competitive meets and participation in local, regional and national competitions. Participants have competed in the Jesse Owens Program, the U.S. Youth Games, Hershey Games, AAU Junior Olympics, the East Coast Invitational, the National Age Group Championships and the Nike Invitational.
